Bowled over by the warm reception in Kolkata after arriving for the ICC World Twenty20, Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi said his team is loved more in India than in Pakistan, and that he has never felt any security threat in the country. The Pakistani team touched down on Saturday night after their government cleared the trip following assurances of security from India. Afridi and senior all-rounder Shoaib Malik played down the intense media focus on Pakistan's safety. Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi was bowled over by the warm reception his team received in Kolkata "I've not enjoyed playing anywhere as much as I have in India. I am in the last stage of my career and I can say that the love I have got in India is something that I will always remember. We have not got this much love even from Pakistan," Afridi said. "There are cricket-loving people here, much like in Pakistan. Overall, I've enjoyed a lot playing in India in my cricketing career," he added. Echoing Afridi's sentiment, Malik, who is married to Indian tennis star Sania Mirza, said he feels honoured to be in India. "Firstly I would like to thank the Indian government. The security is very good. My wife is from India and I come to India a lot. I have never faced any security issue," Malik said. "I don't really see any difference between Pakistani people and the Indians. We eat the same food, we speak the same language. I don't really see any difference. I am very happy to be in India. I have always got a lot of love from people and from media. I'm honoured to be in India," he added. Asked to comment on Pakistan government's delay in clearing their travel, Afridi side-stepped the query. "Whatever decision the state takes, we are behind them. We are cricketers and not politicians. Sport always brings two nations together. Can there be anything better than cricket? I think we should keep politics away from it," Afridi said. On whether Pakistani players would be distracted by the drama that preceded their arrival, Afridi said: "I think it's nothing special. We were practising over there. We think about that. Physically and mentally we were ready that we will go definitely. International cricket is all about pressure. The team which handles pressure well wins in the end." The World Twenty20 build-up has been far from ideal for Pakistan, but captain Shahid Afridi said his team is in a positive frame of mind even though it needs to be more disciplined in executing strategy. Pakistan only won two matches during last month's Asia Cup, a debacle that came close on the heels of a limited-overs away series loss to New Zealand. Afridi said his side has been guilty of deviating from plans and this shortcoming will have to be overcome. "We are missing that (execution of plans). But I don't think we should live in the past. If we play to the team plan, we would do well," Afridi said. "The first game is always very important. You take rhythm from the first match. We will try to take the rhythm from the first match. The pitch and conditions suit us. Both the matches will be very important," he added. Eden Gardens has been a happy hunting ground for Pakistan where they have an 4-0 record against India in the ODIs and Afridi said the stat is enough to keep them in a positive frame of mind. "We have very good memories here. We will be playing two matches here so we're confident. Back of the mind, you see overall performances. You think about past. You take those positively. The body language will be good so it's a plus point," he said. Afridi said he would not hesitate to promote himself up the order in the batting lineup if the need arises. "As a captain I have given a lot of chance to youngsters. But in a big event like this, it is the senior players who take the pressure be it myself, Shoaib Malik or Mohammed Hafeez. I will look to contribute up the order." Underdog status works for Pakistan All-rounder Shoaib Malik will have a role to play with both bat and ball Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik feels the underdog tag will help them do well in the forthcoming ICC World T20, [https://footballandcricketonline.hpage.com/cricketer-suresh-raina-wife.html https://footballandcricketonline.hpage.com/cricketer-suresh-raina-wife.html] like it did when they ended up winning the 1992 World Cup and 2009 World T20. "It's good that we're underdogs and that gives you a lot of confidence at the same time. We are here to do well," Malik said in Kolkata. Drawing parallel with Imran Khan-led team's World Cup winning moment in Australia, the senior Pakistani cricketer said: "Let's talk about 1992 World Cup first. People were not expecting us to do well and win it but we won that. Same thing happened in 2007 World T20 when we did well before losing to India in the final. In 2009, we were not that big as a team but still we won. The same is the case going into this edition." Blaming their group stage exit in the recently-concluded Asia Cup to lack of preparation Malik said: "We could not deliver as per the expectations in the Asia Cup. It's part of life, we are professionals. Whatever happened has happened. We are here to give our best. It is a new tournament. We will try to help each other out and will try what is best for us." With their home tours stopped since the 2009 terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan team in Lahore, Pakistan cricket had suffered a lot - but the beginning of the Pakistan Super League was a positive sign for them, Malik said. "It is going to take a bit of time to come to a level where rest of the world is. If you look at successful Indian players like Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina, Virat Kohli, you could figure it out that they have improved a lot after they started playing IPL." The Pakistan T20i team relax in Kolkata before their first game against Bangladesh "PSL will be the same thing. Yes we are behind at the moment but the fact is we have a lot of youngsters. We are learning. It is a great opportunity for us to do well and bring Pakistan where the rest of the world is." Asked about their jinx against India in the ICC tournaments, he said: "It is not that difficult. When I am playing against India I don't think internally. It is media which has created a lot of hype for this match. "It is a great match for the youngsters to do well and get a superstar status. But we should just go out there and give your best shot. When you think you don't focus on the match. Our focus should be on winning whoever the team maybe, that should be the kind of commitment we need in our team," he said. Malik said lack of international cricket is affecting the team's progress. "Our record in recent past in shorter version is that we have not delivered. We are learning. Since we don't play much international cricket, it is not up to the mark. But we must give credit to the whole nation with the way they are coping up. We need to improve our skills in batting, and need to improve on technique." Hazlewood hat-trick not enough as Sammy guides West Indies to victory Darren Sammy smashed an unbeaten half-century A stunning hat-trick from Josh Hazlewood was not enough for Australia, as Darren Sammy led from the front with an unbeaten half-century to fashion a morale-boosting three-wicket win in a World Twenty20 warm-up match at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday. After Carlos Brathwaite turned it around with a 27-ball 33 (3x4, 2x6), Sammy played the anchor role with an unbeaten 50 laced with one six and six fours to steer the Windies home with a ball to spare. The win was all the more important as the big-hitting opener Chris Gayle did not bat despite being in the playing XI and they were staring down the barrel after Hazlewood reduced them to 18/3 in the 4th over with his hat-trick in their chase of 162. With his searing in-swinging deliveries, Hazlewood (3/13) first dismissed Jason Holder lbw, before unsettling the woodwork of Malron Samuels and Dwayne Bravo and they were 77/6 needing 85 from last seven overs. But Delhi Daredevils recruit Brathwaite, who was snapped up for Rs 4.20 crore in the IPL, displayed his batting prowess taking the attack on Aussie camp with his big hits especially against Mitch Marsh in the 15th over that yielded 17. He got out in the next over but by then the team needed just 37 from 27 balls and Sammy, the Windies 2012 World Twenty20 winning skipper, completed the formality holding on at the other end. Earlier, Australia opted to bat following a mutual decision as Shane Watson (60 from 39 balls; 4x4, 4x6) and Aaron Finch (33 from 24b; 6x4) gave them an explosive start. The duo shared 76 for the opening wicket before Sulieman Benn gave the first breakthrough dismissing Finch as at the midway stage Australia were 85/1. Australian cricketer David Warner has defended his heated spat with Indian batsman Rohit Sharma saying he 'politely' asked him to 'speak English' - despite admitting he was wrong about the incident that got tempers flaring. The mid-pitch argument was sparked when Warner confronted Sharma about an overthrow after the last ball of the 23rd over on Sunday during the one-day international at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Warner, who has found himself at the centre of more than one sledging controversy this summer, supposedly mouthed-off at the Indian batsman over what he perceived to be poor sportsmanship for running off an overthrow that he believed came from a deflection. 'When I went over to say something to him, he sort of said something in their language and I said, 'Speak English', because, if you're going to say something, understand that theoretically I cannot speak Hindi,' Warner told Sky Sports Radio, according to [ ]. Scroll down for video The heated spat started when Warner confronted Sharma about an overthrow after the last ball of the 23rd over on Sunday at the Melbourne Cricket Ground with India's score at 3-112 [ ] 'I did the polite thing and asked him to speak English, therefore he did and I can't repeat what he said.' India's belief that it wasn't a deflection was supported by a replay, but Warner says he won't apologise despite making the wrong call. 'I was in the wrong... I shouldn't have engaged him,' he said. 'If people get on the wrong side of me, [https://footballandcricketonline.hpage.com/cricketer-suresh-raina-wife.html footballandcricketonline.hpage.com] I'm not going to back down. 'We play hard aggressive cricket but we know what comes with it, sometimes you are going to get fined. 'We've just got to keep trying not to cross that line, because we're all about playing cricket the right way.' There's a so-called unwritten rule in cricket that batsmen don't run overthrows if the ball deflects off their body or bat. While Sharma hesitated at first, he followed through with the run. Warner immediately looked on in disbelief as he walked over from his fielding position. As he walked past Sharma he said something and the Indian batsman's response prompted Warner to double back. Warner was caught on camera repeatedly mouthing: 'What? Speak English'. Umpires Khumar Dharmasena and John Ward were forced to intervene and Australian captain George Bailey had to move Warner away from the Indian batsman. Warner was fined 50 per cent of his match fee over the incident. It kicked off when India ran a single off an overthrow the Australian side believed came after Warner's return possibly deflected off Sharma While Sharma (right) hesitated at first, he followed through with the run and Warner (left) immediately looked on in disbelief As Warner walked past Sharma he was caught on camera mouthing: 'What? Speak English' The clash comes off the back of a four-match Test series between Australia and India that was filled with tension and bad blood. 'I think Rohit was fine with it, I didn't even bother to ask what really happened,' India skipper MS Dhoni said of the heated confrontation. 'It was between two grown men and I hope it was sorted out in the middle.' The two teams have faced racially-fuelled trouble in the past with Indian off spinner Harbhajan Singh being banned for three Tests back in 2008 for calling Australia's Andrew Symonds a 'monkey'. New Zealand cricket great Martin Crowe weighed in on the stoush labelling Warner the most juvenile cricketer he has seen. Crowe says he fears that the left-hander could be at the centre of a fight during the World Cup if things boil over and is advocating a soccer-like yellow and red card system to deal with what he terms 'thuggish behaviour' as fines don't work. 'Warner can play, but he is the most juvenile cricketer I have seen on a cricket field,' Crowe wrote on cricket website espncricinfo.com. 'I don't care how good he is: if he continues to show all those watching that he doesn't care, he must be removed, either by Cricket Australia or definitely by the world governing body. 'The more he gets away with it, the more others will follow his pitiful actions. Already we see one or two of his teammates enjoying being close to his hideous energy.' Umpires Khumar Dharmasena and John Ward were forced to intervene and Australian captain George Bailey had to move Warner away from the Indian batsman Warner has found himself at the centre of more than one sledging controversy this summer The umpires were forced to step in and separate Warner and Sharma during the heated clash Sharma, who was 58 at the time, went on to make 137. But India's Suresh Raina, who made 52, looked delighted when he took the catch that dismissed Warner for 24 during the Australian innings. Australia's James Faulkner ended up guiding his side to a four-wicket win over India. Australia were cruising when they needed 50 runs off the final 10 overs with seven wickets in hand, but the tourists fought back boldly to reduce that equation to 14 runs off 11 balls. Aaron Finch scored 96 and his 101-run partnership with Steve Smith piloted Australia to a point where they needed 52 runs from 63 deliveries. Finch reined in his natural aggression, reaching 64 off 96 balls before walloping his first six of the night. Sharma hits century in timely win for India By [/home/search.html?s=&authornamef=Reuters Reuters] Published: 11:31 BST, 10 February 2015 | Updated: 11:31 BST, 10 February 2015 [ ] [ ] [ ] </a> Feb 10 (Reuters) - Opener Rohit Sharma smashed 150 in India's 153-run romp against Afghanistan in their final World Cup warm-up match on Tuesday, helping the holders register their first win in Australia since they landed in November. Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane (88 not out) and Suresh Raina (75) made merry against Afghanistan's limited bowling resources to propel India to 364-5 at the Adelaide Oval. The two-time world champions then restricted Afghanistan to 211-8 to finally taste victory before they begin their title defence against arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday. In an otherwise frustrating Australian summer, India lost the four-test series to Australia, could not win a single match in the subsequent tri-series also involving England, and were spanked by the World Cup hosts in their first warm-up match on Sunday. Opting to bat first, India lost quick two wickets before Sharma and Raina (75) added 158 runs in the next 25 overs. Worryingly for them, however, opener Shikhar Dhawan's lack of footwork once again led to his dismissal while batting mainstay Virat Kohli and [https://footballandcricketonline.hpage.com/cricketer-suresh-raina-wife.html footballandcricketonline.hpage.com] captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni also could not spend enough time in the middle. Sharma, the only cricketer to hit two 200-plus ODI scores, appeared to have recovered fully from a hamstring injury as he hit seven sixes and 12 boundaries in his 122-ball knock. Contrary to expectations, Sharma did not retire after his century to allow other team mates some batting practice. In a pitchside interview after the Indian innings, Raina said his team would try to restrict Afghanistan to under 250 which they did but their inability to bowl out the minnows once against proved their bowling limitations. Nawroz Mangal (60) and Usman Ghani (44) shone with the bat for Afghanistan who begin their World Cup campaign against Bangladesh on Feb. 18. India lacked sharpness in the field with Mohammad Shami and Ambati Rayudu dropping regulation catches. In contrast, Dhawan and Umesh Yadav collaborated to take a spectacular catch to remove Ghani. Dhawan ran back from short midwicket to take a tumbling catch but the ball popped out of his hands and he juggled with it before flicking it into the hands of Yadav, who had rushed from long-on to catch the skier before halting to avoid a collision.
