Most of us are lucky to get a balloon and a few cards on our birthday, but when your parents are rich and famous a coming of age is celebrated a little differently. When children turn a year older in Tinseltown, it's all about excessive over-the-top themed parties, decadently delicious cakes and the most lavish gifts imaginable. From Tamara Ecclestone and Jay Rutland transforming their mansion into a farmyard for daughter Sophia, to Kanye West and Kim Kardashian throwing a Kidchella bash for little North's birthday, we round up the most lavish children's parties that'll even leave grown-ups green with envy. SOPHIA ECCLESTONE As heir to the Formula 1 empire, Tamara Ecclestone's childhood was no doubt a luxurious one. And it seems that she wants the same for her daughter Sophia, who celebrated turning one in March this year with a lavish and extravagant birthday party. Tamara, 30, and husband Jay Rutland clearly wanted to give their only daughter a first birthday to remember - and they pulled out all the stops by creating 'Sophia's farmyard' in the garden of their London mansion. When Sophia celebrated turning one in March this year, her mother Tamara Ecclestone and father Jay Rutland threw a lavish and extravagant birthday party in her honour Zebras, sheep, puppies and ponies were just some of the animals that were seen arriving at the family home, which had been kitted out with pink and white balloons crafted into 'S' shapes in honour of the youngster. Each animal had its very own station complete with a gazebo and pink name sign, and a balloon artist was also seen making his way into the family home. Despite barely having any teeth yet, the adorable tot and her guests tucked into a deliciously decadent four-foot castle cake with a giant numerical '1' festooned with dozens of ornate roses. In honour of showbiz's trendiest tot, the extended Kardashian-Jenner clan gathered en masse for a party of epic proportions - a fun 'Kidchella'-themed bash. In keeping with the kid-friendly theme, which was loosely based on the annual Coachella Valley Music And Arts Festival held in Indio, California, guests dressed up in bohemian festival attire and a mini stage was set up for some karaoke action. The youngster even attempted to blow out her very first candle on an incredibly colourful three-tier tie-dye cake decorated beautifully with flowers and pearls. Perhaps the most impressive element of the party was a giant Ferris wheel, which was erected in Kourtney Kardashian and partner Scott Disick's home in Calabasas for both little and large guests to enjoy. In fact when the tot turned two back in 2008, her doting parents reportedly splashed $100,000 (£64,000) on the celebrations. According to In Touch magazine, actor Tom called on celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck to feed guests and decorated the venue with thousands of pounds worth of fresh flowers in honour of his little lady. Clearly fans of the sweeter things in life, the former couple were also reported to have spent nearly $5,000 (£3,200) on cakes alone. As the only daughter of Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise, Suri Cruise has had her fair share of lavish birthdays Whilst each guest apparently received their own personal cake, the best was, of course, saved for the birthday girl - an impressive four-tier cake, which was decorated with her beloved butterflies and bumblebees. Suri's second birthday set the tone for years to come. When the youngster turned eight last April, her mother decided to spoil her in a similar fashion and lavish her with the girliest gifts. An array of pink balloons and presents could be seen being delivered to her home in New York City. Doormen at the upmarket Chelsea Mercantile high-rise building she lives in were kept busy as they accepted a number of gifts, loading them carefully onto a gold baggage trolley and hand-delivering them to the birthday girl's apartment. When Suri turned eight, her doting mother shared a black and white snap featuring a plate of 12 delicious cupcakes, which spelled out 'Happy Birthday Suri' A sweet soft pink doll's house from high-end toy store FAO Schwarz was wrapped in protective clear plastic and decorated with a red ribbon baring the company's name, while a large white bag featuring the store's red jester logo contained an unidentified present. Along with the toys were several foil helium balloons in the shape of a crown adorned with the word 'Princess', some different sized hearts featuring Disney characters and a large balloon in the shape of Minnie Mouse's head. And, of course, there were plenty of sweet treats for Suri to enjoy on her special day. Her doting mother shared a sweet photo with fans on Twitter as the inseparable duo spent the day celebrating together. 'Best day ever!!!!!!' she captioned a black and white snap featuring a plate of 12 delicious cupcakes, which spelled out 'Happy Birthday Suri'. JAYDEN AND SEAN PRESTON Britney Spears certainly wanted to make her two cool dudes feel special on their birthdays. The songstress threw a skateboard-themed birthday bash for her sons Jayden James, eight, and Sean Preston, nine, last September. The 32-year-old hitmaker looked ecstatic as she wrapped her arms around her sons, whom she shares custody of with ex-husband Kevin Federline. There was also a huge graffiti sign emblazoned with the words: ‘Happy birthday Jayden and Sean', as well as crispy wheel canapés and colourful skateboard cake pops. The reality TV star splurged $60,000 (£38,500) on the event, which was organised by esteemed celebrity events organiser, Dana Wilkey. Held at the Houdini mansion in the Laurel Canyon area, the afternoon tea themed party came complete with floating teapots filled with beautiful fresh flowers and cupcakes on delicate bone china. Kennedy's fifth birthday followed suit with a petting zoo, bouncy castles and a costly birthday cake topped with a horse. At one point during the party, Taylor rounded up her family - all decked out in cowboy hats - to take family portraits together by a photographer they hired for the event. Former American Idol, Ace Young, was the special performer at the birthday party and performed a song he had written especially for the birthday girl.
