How many [/sport/world-cup-2018/index.html World Cup] points would [/sport/portugal_football/index.html Portugal] have without [/sport/cristianoronaldo/index.html Cristiano Ronaldo] in their team?
One? Maybe two if we are being generous?
As it is, Portugal have four and would appear to be on their way to qualifying for the knockout stages after just two games.
Ronaldo's early goal here was his fourth of the tournament, following on from his hat-trick in the 3-3 draw with Spain. A header, it was a classic Ronaldo moment.

Brave, decisive and entirely predictable.
Cristiano Ronaldo runs away in celebration after his header gave Portugal a fourth-minute lead against Morocco in Moscow
Ronaldo increased his goals tally to four in two matches at the World Cup by making the early breakthrough
Ronaldo soaks up the acclaim of the Luzhniki Stadium crowd as he performs his pirouette celebration near the corner flag
Ronaldo stole ahead of his marker Karim El Ahmadi to head home Portugal's opening goal in the fourth minute in Moscow
Morocco goalkeeper Munir Mohamedi was left with no chance as Ronaldo's bullet diving header ripped past him
The Portugal players celebrate with Ronaldo after he opened the scoring early on against Morocco
RELATED ARTICLES [# Previous] [# 1] [# Next] [/sport/football/article-5864811/Cristiano-Ronaldos-form-Portugal-outstanding-hit-30.html Cristiano Ronaldo's form for Portugal has been outstanding...] [/sport/football/article-5865033/Cristiano-Ronaldo-sports-goatee-arrives-Portugals-World-Cup-clash-Morocco.html Cristiano Ronaldo reveals he grew new goatee beard as a joke...] [/sport/football/article-5865123/BBCs-Vicki-Sparks-makes-history-female-World-Cup-commentator.html BBC's Vicki Sparks makes history as first female commentator...]

Share

From that point on, however, Portugal were given the run around by Morocco and that they managed to win points to one of the more remarkable stories of this World Cup so far.
The Africans - who lost their opener to Iran courtesy of a late own goal - missed a good chance in the second minute here and subsequently spent most of the afternoon missing them.

Twice in injury time, they looked set to equalise but didn't. It was that kind of day.
So they will in all likelihood go home after the group stage while Portugal will move forwards. But nobody should really fear Ronaldo and [http://soulofcricketer.mystrikingly.com/blog/dhoni-last-ball-six http://soulofcricketer.mystrikingly.com/blog/dhoni-last-ball-six] Co. The 33-year-old is already having the tournament of his life but surely cannot carry a team as modest as this one all on his own for the next three weeks.
Portugal failed to dictate the way this game was played just as they failed to do so against Spain. On both occasions, an early Ronaldo goal gave them the lead but it did not give them dominance.

Ronaldo attempts another shot during the first half as he tries to strengthen his case for the World Cup Golden Boot
Goncalo Guedes had an excellent opportunity to double Portugal's lead but Munir Mohamedi made a one-handed save
Portugal keeper Rui Patricio makes a magnificent one-handed save to deny Younes Belhanda a certain equalising goal
The reflex save by Rui Patricio prevented Portugal conceding an equalising goal at a crucial juncture of the match
<div class="art-ins mol-factbox sport halfRHS" data-version="2" id="mol-711447e0-748f-11e8-b653-af82f01da0ef" website 1-0 Morocco: Cristiano Ronaldo heads home the winner
